Although the cave's entrance was discovered by spelunkers in 1990 (exposing evidence of ancient cave bears and extinct megafauna) the true treasures that awaited discovery lay 1000 feet deeper.

Archaeologists opened up the Bruniquel Cave in Southern France in 2013. Sealed since the Pleistocene Age, the cave has revealed mysterious Neolithic stone circles that were constructed from over 400 pieces of stalagmite. The largest circle stretches over 22 feet in diameter.
Pre-dating Homo Sapiens by 100,000 years... this is one of the oldest
finds of pre-human structures ever discovered.
